Our first training walk had to be the most HUMID of any June training walk EVER!!! But it was excellent training because that is what you will probably experience during the actual 3Day. Day 1 of the 2007 3Day Walk was 105 with the heat index. And Day 2 did not get much better. We are in Florida, so heat, humidity and bugs are a fact of life and they will be with you during training and the actual walk. But that’s why we train – to get ready for the elements and determine what gear works best.
I know the temptation is to head indoors and hit the treadmill during those really hot days, but my advice is to make sure that you are training outdoors at least 2 of your walking days – preferably the longer walks on the weekend. Your body and gear needs to get use to the heat and humidity and your feet need to get use to pounding the pavement and our favorite thing “slidewalks” – those slanted sidewalks/driveways that put additional pressure on your ankles and knees. Make sure you read our Team Training Info site for information on preparation and gear. But the most important thing is to stay healthy and safe during your training.
Just a reminder to get your name tag orders into Carrie by June 30th.
And our committees are busy planning Casino Night, ordering magnets, researching team shirts and team towels. Make sure you’re involved in the fundraising efforts – every dollar raised goes to fund a walker which in turn funds the cure for breast cancer.
The YOU GO GIRL!! award goes out to Lori Jean Clark – she has raised over $2600!!! CONGRATULATIONS
