Its Here!

The first official team walk is this Saturday, June 20th and will be 6 miles. We will be walking from the Safety Harbor Spa on the Ream Wilson Trail. We will start walking at 8 am - which is probably the last time you will get to start walking that late. But we need to make sure everyone starts getting use to walking in the heat of the day. All 3-day first-timers are urged to either attend this walk or make sure you do your six miles this Saturday. This is where you really start learning about your body. What to wear, what to carry, what to drink, what to eat, when to stretch and when to take a break. Contact Sheila Porter if you are planning to walk.

Remember The Training Walk Basics!

Bring a cell phone. Make sure that you have an entry in your contacts called ICE should we need to contact someone In Case of Emergency.

Bring sunscreen and OFF.
Lip balm.
Bring a hat and sunglasses.
Bring water/Gatorade, snacks.
Some money to purchase snacks or breakfast along the way.
A poncho if it looks like rain.
Wear comfortable shoes and clothing (preferably Dry Wick material).
Remember to STRETCH before, during and after the walk. It really helps.
WALK AT YOUR OWN PACE! Don't try to walk slower or faster than someone else as you need to go at your own pace.
REMEMBER - THIS IS NOT A RACE - IT'S A WALK!!!
Remember to HYDRATE, HYDRATE, HYDRATE AND PEE, PEE, PEE! This gets really important on the longer walks.
If you don't feel right, DON'T BE A HERO - CALL YOUR TRAINING LEADER!!! Stop if you feel dizzy, get leg cramps or pains, feel nauseous or light-headed.

Remember to have fun. This is good for you and remember why you are walking.
