Carol Lynch - Walker

About Me:

I'm 50, I have 3 great sons and a terrific husband who puts up with my crazy ways. We moved to Florida in 1997 from Ontario, and we LOVE it here. I am a computer developer and I work for Nielsen Media Research in Oldsmar. I am an amateur photographer and strangely enough, because of training for the 3-Day I have rediscovered my love of the outdoors.

Why I Joined This Team:

I walk in memory of my Mom, Pat Wood. She fought a very brave fight through chemo, radiation, 2 relapses but we lost her in Aug '93. I want to do whatever I can so that doesn't happen to others.  That last summer holds a lot of memories for me. My Mom's attitude through it all was amazingly positive, right up until the end.

One day I saw an ad for the 3-Day. Wow - a positive thing I could do!  I signed up.

So there I was out training for the 2006 3-Day. I would start out from my house in Safety Harbor and walk down through Philippe Park until I hit the halfway mark and then walk back. I thought walking by myself I'd have time to think, ponder, muse. Well, one Saturday, I was strolling along through the park. I could hear them before I could see them - there was this rowdy bunch of about 8 women laughing and talking came around the bend. We said hello, the way walkers do. They asked if I was doing the 3-Day, I said yes - and then we were past each other. The next day I met them again, going out, and then again, coming back at Bayou Park they asked me to walk with them. We traded phone numbers and that's how I joined the Thanks for the Mammories! gang.   I'd found the best second family anyone could ever wish for!

Last year I thought I'd take a break from fund raising and join the crew side of the 3 Day - it was fun, slinging breakfast and dinner to all the walkers, talking and joking and making sure they got enough potatoes. But I found I missed walking too much - so this year I am walking again.
