About Me:
I am a very blessed stay-at-home mom with two great boys. I am happiest when I am outside with my family. We love to bike, walk, hike, boat, and play soccer. We also love to read. I always have more books out from the library than I can keep straight! I love to bake cookies, cakes, and breads. Thankfully, I also like to exercise! Before having children I taught second grade. I became a teacher because I wanted to make a difference in the world. I have always believed in the power of the individual.
Why I Walk and Joined This Team:
When I first thought about doing this walk I thought about a mom with two students I had taught. Her name was Lisa. Lisa battled breast cancer the year I taught her oldest son, and lost her battle to breast cancer the year I taught her second son. She has had an immeasurable impact on my life. Because of her I know to love the day to day moments with my children. Snuggling up for hugs and kisses, watching my children discover something new, and simple things like reading a book together or playing at the park are all precious treasures. I will forever be grateful for the impact Lisa has had on my life. This November will be the 10 year anniversary of Lisa's death.
While Lisa is a great inspiration for doing this walk, she is not the only reason. I am also doing this walk for my kids. Lately, I feel like I have heard too many sad cancer stories. I have decided that this is not the legacy I want to leave my children. I do not want them to associate cancer with fear. I want them to associate cancer with hope. I want them to see that the generations that came before them believed a cure for cancer could be found, and then found it. I know that walking 60 miles in the
Breast Cancer 3-Day won't find the cure for all cancers, but it is at least a "step" in the right direction.
